2010 Legacies Now

A funding program for sports, arts and literacy groups to develop cultural legacies in BC on behalf of the 2010 Olympic Games. ¶

AFP Vancouver

The Vancouver chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. ¶

BC Arts Council

Provides financial support to eligible writers, artists, publishers and cultural organizations in BC. ¶

BC Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch Direct Access Grants

The former BC Gaming Commission provides funding to certain provincial arts groups that can show community involvement. ¶

Canada Helps

An organization that facilitates online fundraising to allow charities to accept donations over the Internet. They also connect donors to registered charitable organizations. ¶

Canada Periodical Fund

An initiative of the Department of Canadian Heritage. It provides contributions to eligible Canadian magazine publishers and industry associations through formula-based and project-based components. ¶

City of Vancouver: Cultural Services, Grants, Awards & Support Programs

A City of Vancouver organization that provides grants for eligible cultural organizations and events. ¶

Grants for Assistance Hiring Students and Others

Since we have no funds for internships at this point, I thought I’d compile a list of other types of funding to hire students and others who can help at your magazine.  I realize this all takes time, but I figure if you went through the process once or twice, it would get easier.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada

Offers grants and subsidies to qualified employers for summer internships, student hiring, skills training and youth employment. ¶

Imagine Canada Directory of Funders

A directory of funders and grants in Canada. Available for a fee; a starter-kit is also available for free to non-profits under $100,000/year. They also provide provide recommended resource lists and a searchable database in their Nonprofit Library ¶

Small Business BC - How to Finance Your Start-up Business

A 2006 guidebook to government financial resources available to BC small businesses, produced by Small Business BC. ¶

The Canada Council for the Arts

A national agency which offers grants, services and awards to eligible professional Canadian artists and arts organizations, including writers and cultural magazine publishers. ¶

Vancouver Foundation

A philanthropic organization which grants money and resources to a broad range of eligible groups. ¶

Western Economic Diversification Program

A government body which provides assistance to eligible projects that diversify economic activity and create employment in western Canada. ¶
