MagsBC Presents Inclusiveness Panel at WORD Vancouver

MagsBC board member Natasha Sanders-Kay has organized a panel at WORD on Sunday Sept. 25 @ 3:40 p.m. called “Inclusive Magazine Publishing: Barriers and Strategies for Writers and Publishers.”

Jen Sookfong Lee portraitCanadian broadcaster and novelist Jen Sookfong Lee will be moderating the panel, which will include:

Jónína Kirton, writer, editor (Room), coordinator of the first National Indigenous Writers Conference, and member of the Aboriginal Writers Collective, West Coast chapter

Chelene Knight, writer, managing editor (Room)

Elee Kraljii Gardiner, writer, editor (Poetry Is Dead), director of Thursdays Writing Collective, and founding member of CWILA (Canadian Women in the Literary Arts).

Panelists will address barriers preventing marginalized writers from getting published and offer advice and strategies for change to magazines looking to be more inclusive.

MagsBC will also have a table set up at the festival and we look forward to meeting the public and chatting about our projects, members and services.

Also of interest on Sunday is a magazine lounge in Blenz with copies of magazines to read and take away, and a pop-up magazine display around Vancouver’s business district. Contact Rebus Creative for details.

WORD Vancouver runs from September 21-25th this year. The panel will be at 3:40 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 25 in The Lions tent outside the Vancouver Public Library main branch during the festival.
