About Us

The Watershed Sentinel is a non-profit magazine that grew out of the grassroots environmental movement in coastal BC in the early 1990s. Our small team proudly produces five 40-page print issues annually, and we upload about 30% of our print content online.

Our subscribers and supporters value the Watershed Sentinel for our balanced editorial mix, our long history and connections within the environmental movement, our commitment to factual reporting and critical analysis, the physical print magazine, and our philosophy (see below).

Watershed Sentinel Philosophy:

People-powered, bottom-up media
Learn from and uplift Indigenous viewpoints
Give voice to grassroots and community activists
Reflect, not dictate
Explore, not pre-determine
Provide balance, a voice to all sides within an environmental and social justice perspective, with content inclusive of science and passion, environmental justice and conservation.
