How to Fix Your Broken or Underperforming Website Using the SEMRUSH Site Audit Tool — for Noobs!
Broken internal links, unminified pages, missing meta tags, oh my!
If you’ve signed up for the free monthly site audit report of your site from Semrush – and you should! – you’ve probably had the experience of three steps forward, five steps back. You fix the things you understand, but how on earth do you fix all those java script errors, and how do you prioritize the fixes that will get your pages ranking again on search?
Join online for this informative webinar, Novemer 19, 2025, a Strategies for Canadian Magazines webinar with Dmitry Beniaminov and Angie McKaig. Hosted by Joyce Byrne.
In this hands on session built for WordPress website managers who don’t have a tech background, our expert teachers Dmitry Beniaminov and Angie McKaig will take us through the process of interpreting the results of a Semrush site audit, which line items need your attention, and how to fix them!
Let’s be honest, even with some familiarity with SEO tools (like you have!) some errors or recommendations are too technical and we could all use some explanations and shortcodes to help us.
We’ll cover some real life examples of audit reports, touch on Google Search Console, and a few other important tools for tuning up your website including:
- Semrush suite vs. alternative tools (Ahrefs, Moz), cost and value considerations
- CMS variabilities (WordPress versus custom or hybrid CMS)
- Setting up Site Tech Audit Crawler correctly (yes, it’s possible to scan your site content incorrectly)
- Using robots.txt (manually, or through CMS, or through SEO plugins) to control how much content is accessible/indexable
- Using custom sitemaps vs. default sitemaps (and some advice for publishers who do not use a sitemap -> start doing it, like, yesterday)
- and the latest, greatest – AI protections: using llms.txt to prevent your content from being harvested by those companies
There will be time for Q&A to tackle specific concerns, and you’ll walk away ready to implement some site improvements today!
Who should attend:
- In-house web and digital marketing staff with some familiarity with SEO tools
- Everyone is welcome!
