Job Description – Illustrator, Graphic Designer & Assistant to the Publisher
As an intern student with BAZOOF!TM, you’d become an integral part of the creative team working as an illustrator, graphic designer and fulfilling various tasks in assisting the publisher which includes but not limited to:
- BAZOOF!TM Digi-Mag (a literary publication of youth work)
- Publishing posts through an online platform that accompanies the digital publication
- Further developing the brand’s visual look through various mediums
- Website updates
- Social media
- Designing marketing materials and assisting with projects for both print and web
- Newsletter design and management
- Editing, proofing and all the stages of production
Assistance Received
The student will work closely with the publisher who will guide you through all your projects. Style guides, detailed instructions and examples from previously published work are provided. We work as a team, so assistance is provided on all sides of production to support you in your role. You’ll also be paired with a mentor who will assist you with your career journey on a weekly basis.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Interns must be enrolled in or recent graduate (within 3 years) of an art, graphic design or a comparable program in an accredited post-secondary institution
- Computer with the licensed Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator
Proficient
- Illustration and considerable experience working in Adobe’s Illustrator program
Intermediate Level
- Photoshop, Indesign
Basic
- Familiarity with using social media
- Artistic, innovative and capable of grasping design that works and appeals to young readers
- An interest in the brand’s demographics of 0-11 years
An Asset
- Marketing experience
- Working within Google Drive
Company Location
The creative team for BAZOOF!TM works remotely and through frequent online meetings. As the need arises, in-person meetings will be arranged if the intern lives in the Vancouver, BC area.
Deliverables:
Experience in developing the company’s visual brand image and platform
Design experience for the website, WordPress, social media, online and print
Design for BAZOOF!TM Digital publication and interactive media
Contributing to the in-depth stages of print publishing
Other tasks as assigned
Accountability:
The intern will report to TeLeni Koochin, Managing Editor, and the Mentor as assigned.
Benefits:
This role will give the intern an extensive experience building the company’s brand, understanding the design process for digital and print publishing and the ability to contribute to projects as a member of the creative and publishing team. The intern is expected to leave with the knowledge required to obtain an entry-level job in the industry.
Time commitment:
This is a part-time (20 hours/week), 18.1 week position
Start date: June 8 or as soon as the position is filled End date: October 19, 2026
Time off: Includes 1 week vacation time off in the summer
Pay: $20.00 per hour
