NUVO Magazine is offering a Practicum Placement (for academic credit, unpaid)

NUVO is looking for a student to join its small but mighty team in the Vancouver office as a Digital Intern. This opportunity is for currently enrolled students requiring a practicum placement for completion of a graduate or post-graduate degree in media-related programs such as journalism or communications.

Hours: 32 hours per week for the duration of the practicum

Location: Vancouver

NUVO magazine is Canada’s authority on the exceptional—a combination of style and purpose. We publish original stories that spotlight craftsmanship, creativity, and collaboration through a Canadian lens. We share our readers’ international sensibilities in design, food and wine, fashion, celebrity, art, architecture, travel, business, automobiles, and more.

The Digital Intern will work closely with the editorial and art teams, assisting in further enhancing NUVO’s digital presence and strategy. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • fact-checking online articles,
  • providing story ideas,
  • attending editorial meetings,
  • researching cultural and social media trends, website strategies (including SEO and keyword research), and digital content strategies.


Successful applicants
will have an opportunity to write stories for the website.

By the end of the placement, the intern will gain professional skills in project management and digital marketing, as well as valuable insight into working for a magazine.

Qualifications and Skills

• An enrolled post-secondary graduate student
• A self-starter who works as well independently as in a team
• Strong command of the English language; excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of CP Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style
• Technologically proficient
• Experience in researching trends, SEO keywords, digital strategies for websites and social media
• Interested in magazines and working on an editorial team
• Knowledge of using Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, as well as other platforms
• Experience in managing social media platforms as a business is considered an asset
• Competency working with Adobe programs, Google, GA4, MailChimp
• Receptive to feedback; has a strong willingness to learn
• Legally allowed to work in Canada

The successful candidate will work 32 hours per week, in-person, joining our team in the Vancouver office for the practicum placement.
