Job Opportunity: Project Coordinator, Association of Book Publishers of BC – FILLED

The Association of Book Publishers of BC (ABPBC), a trade association of 28 BC-owned and -controlled book publishing companies, is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and inquisitive Project Coordinator to help plan and execute projects that serve the needs of the diverse BC book publishing industry andĀ engage book-related communities in British Columbia, Canada, and beyond.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Coordinatorā€™s responsibilities are split between marketing and administrative duties.

Marketing & Promotions

The Project Coordinator executes marketing projects that develop the publicā€™s awareness and appreciation of BC books, including our Read Local BC campaign and associated branding (READLOCALBC.CA), weekly BC Bestsellers List, BC Books Online website (BCBOOKSONLINE.COM), Poetry in Transit campaign, Books for Schools catalogues, displays at trade shows/conferences/festivals, and collective advertising.

ā€¢ Tracking project objectives, key metrics, and deliverables
ā€¢ Managing project budgets and timelines
ā€¢ Liaising with publishers, printers, contractors, and other personnel
ā€¢ Assisting with grant applications and reporting
ā€¢ Coordinating Read Local BC events (3 in spring, 3 in fall): coordinating venue logistics, readers, and event promotion
ā€¢ Helping to develop and write editorial content for the ABPBC, BC Books Online, and Read Local websites, as well as helping to maintain these websites
ā€¢ Contributing to the associationā€™s social media accounts

With the guidance of the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator will be attentive to ways to improve program delivery or efficiency; expand or focus the scope of the projects; and engage new audiences or partnerships.

Administration and Professional Development

ā€¢ Helping to coordinate professional development opportunities for the associationā€™s membership, which include seminars and workshops, an annual retreat, an awards dinner, and an AGM: liaising with venue contacts, presenters, and participants; promoting events; managing registration; collecting and collating attendee feedback as needed
ā€¢ Booking meeting rooms and coordinating meeting logistics (refreshments, A/V needs)
ā€¢ Taking board and committee meeting minutes
ā€¢ Handling email and phone inquiries
ā€¢ Coordinating membership renewals
ā€¢ Light bookkeeping tasks: sending invoices, tracking payments, making bank deposits
ā€¢ General office operations and organization: filing, mailing, ordering supplies

QUALIFICATIONS

ā€¢ Enthusiasm for the book publishing industry and Canadian literature, demonstrated through a combination of relevant coursework, work experience, and reading interests
ā€¢ Superior written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with spelling, grammar, and punctuation
ā€¢ Experience with marketing and/or copywriting, in particular advertising campaigns, social media management, onlineĀ content writing, and/or web analytics
ā€¢ Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
ā€¢ DemonstratedĀ ability to oversee a project from start to finish, while maintaining acute attention to detail
ā€¢ Willingness to take initiative, and to work both independently and as part of a team
ā€¢ Resourcefulness and creative problem-solving skills
ā€¢ Strong customer service skills
ā€¢ Proficiency with Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Google apps, WordPress CMS, and Adobe Acrobat
ā€¢ Event planning and/or publicity experience an asset
ā€¢ Graphic design experience and familiarity with InDesign an asset

WORK CONDITIONS

The ABPBC is a member-led association, with its priorities and projects driven by a board and committees in response to the membershipā€™s interests and needs.Ā The Project Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.

This is a full-time, salaried position, based in the ABPBCā€™s downtown Vancouver office. Occasional travel and evening and weekend work may be required. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
