BC Book Day and Creative Industries Week return to Victoria, April 30 and May 1

Tuesday, April 30
BC Book Day, Hall of Honour (BC Legislature Rotunda)
11 a.m.-2 p.m. Displays by book publishers, the Magazine Association of BC, and related groups and festivals, as well as guest authors and publishers.
12:10 p.m. Brief speeches.

MagsBC After-Work Social, The Drake, 517 Pandora Ave., Victoria
5-6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, May 1
Creative Industries Showcase, Hall of Honour. The theme this year is “BC Creators and Job Creators.” If you have a good example of either, please send it to us at MagsBC and we will incorporate it in our display, or, if you’re in Victoria, we can make arrangements to have you attend. RSVP kirsten@kmpr.ca by April 29 if you wish to attend.

Schedule:
10:30 a.m. Creators and industry reps arrive
11 a.m. Government partners and student guests arrive
12:15 p.m. PechaKucha-style 3-minute presentations begin, based on “This is What We Do”
12:33 p.m. Minister Beare makes remarks and proclaims “Creative Industries Week in BC.”
12:45 p.m. Emerging artist Ty Waters performs “This is What I Do”.
1 p.m. Showcase ends

Creative Industries Week Celebration May 1, 7 to 9 p.m. Canoe Brew Pub, 450 Swift St, Victoria - BC Creates

BC Creates Creative Industries Week Celebration (“Gala”), Canoe Pub and Bistro. The evening will include a screening of the Animal Behaviour short, a musical performance by an established BC musical talent, food and drink, and an opportunity to rub shoulders with creators, producers, publishers and politicians.

Schedule (approximate):
6:30 p.m. Creators and industry reps arrive
6:45 p.m. Transportation at Legislature to ferry MLAs to Canoe
7:45 p.m. Brief remarks by emcee and Minister Beare
7:50 p.m. Introduction to filmmakers Alison Snowden and David Fine who did Animal Behaviour and playing of this short film
8:05 p.m. Musical performance, artist TBD
8:15 p.m. Formal program concludes. Transportation back to the Legislature for those who need it

Magazine staff. students, freelancers, bloggers and publishers are all welcome but must RSVP. As there is limited room, we encourage you to RSVP soon.
