Non-Traditional Newsstand Pilot Project

Non-Traditional Newsstand Project: Outdoor free pop-up at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam
Outdoor free pop-up at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam

Our MagsBC’s Non-traditional Newsstands pilot project is well underway!

The pilot project’s aim is to test out alternative distribution channels for BC magazines, focusing initially on the abundance of theatres, performing arts venues, and festivals we have in the Metro Vancouver area.

Since May, we have worked with members to source magazines old and new, and have partnered with venues across the Lower Mainland, from Vancouver to Coquitlam.

In June, we began setting up free newsstands in venue lobbies, and in September, began to host pop-up shops selling the latest magazines our members have published.

As we head into Fall, we’re continuing to pitch the project across the Lower Mainland and keep spreading the word about our fantastic BC-made magazines. We have given away 1,050 copies of the 1,300 magazines donated by our members in six different venues in just four months, increasing the outreach of the magazines and putting them in the hands of hundreds of new readers across the Metro Vancouver area.
