Northword Magazine is a legacy magazine that started in the late 1900s under the name Connections. Northword was officially established in 2005, took a hiatus during COVID-19, and came back to life in April 2025.
Northword is dedicated to the remarkable people that live in northern BC from Haida Gwaii to Lheidli T’enneh and everywhere in-between. We love it here and, as the only independent regional media publication serving the entire region, we feel it’s our responsibility to share the stories of what it’s like to live in the north: the culture, the people, the issues, the lifestyle, the landscapes.
We inspire readers to connect more closely with the region through writing and photography that is both unique and exceptional. It’s our goal to balance civic journalism that covers important topics—always presenting a well-rounded discussion—with stories that celebrate northern life and lifestyle.
